it can. it all depends on the conviction, The state in which it occurred, and more.

What happens is there may be a lien placed on your credit report noting the fines and payoff schedule, or deliquencies. This is true of any criminal or civil conviction (though more arising from Civil cases, as this is what a civil case is all about: penalties and liens to enforce payment- something the IRS uses all day long, every day).

Of note, all liens are usually recorded on a credit report, or all 3 agencies. and left on the reports for 7 years after it is paid off.

look for errors, and id theft. figure out a statement for investigators to check out. it has your report from TransUnion, Experian, and well you’ll find out. It was setup as part of a fed mandate. The most important document a US resident has, as the information on it will help someone else determine if you get the job you apply for, rent the house or apt, get a phone or electric account, and so on. almost as insidious as being investigated and watched by the CIA.

But people get errors placed on the file all the time, but never seem to look at their own file to see what’s right and what’s not.
