Do law enforcement agencies have to publish the locations of DUI checkpoints prior to implementing them?
If so where? Where can information on the effectiveness and number of arrests etc be obtained? ...

Yes, they publish them to avoid litigation.
for stats try their public affairs dept,, madd, or the local paper
Yes it is the law. MADD
suppsed to,,it is a civil liberty,,to not do so would jeopardize your right to advance knowledge, most of the time the news will inform you,,you just have to watch..
no then people would just avoid the area if they were drunk.
My hubbys told me when they were having them but would not ever tell me the location…and I am his wife..lol..there’s just certain things an officer doesnt tell anyone!
It would be dumb to post the location!
U know it would be dumb to tell the location! The purpose of having them is to get drunk drivers off the road, if drunks knew about them they would avoid the area and find a new route!
Just like the click it or ticket, they do the same but dont tell where they will be!
i may be wrong after all I am just an officers wife!
Where I live, they usually DO publish the locations, are at least the times in advance. I have yet to find anyone who could show me that it is actually required.
Nice girl make a good point about it not making much sense to tell the drunks what areas to avoid. They seem to get caught anyway. I guess that means the ones that get caught really ARE impaired.
Correct me if I’m wrong. They don’t have to publish the locations but they do have to give you an escape route (side street, ect) to turn down. This way no one can say it’s entrapment. Plus, when people see the orange signs telling them DUI checkpoint ahead alot of people think it’s normal road construction until they get right up to it.
