I got a dui but the charges were dropped. How do I get my license back?

When I went to the DMV to get my license back they said the DMV suspended my license for a year. I called the court and they said I should be allowed to get my license back, but the DMV wouldn't give it to me. Why is this and what do I have to do to get it back? This is in CA by the way.

    This is a DMV action, not a court action. It is not based upon anything the court did, and going to the court is not going to help you.

    Did you refuse to take an alcohol test? That will get you a suspension no matter what happens on the charge. Otherwise, this might be an "administrative per se" suspension. You need to contact an attorney who specializes in DMV proceedings. Many can be found on the web.

    What I would do is first go to the court and get some documentation that the case has been dropped. Call the clerk of the court and ask what kind of document this would be, then go down there and pick it up.

    THEN go to the DMV, show them this document, and ask for your license to be re-instated.

    There might be small, nominal fees for both these steps. 8^<
