I am pursuing a MPA degree but I have two theft charges and a DUI. Also does credit matter?? My FICO IS 545?

    It all matters if you are wanting to work for the government. Do you really think anyone is going to hire you to work for any government agency with two theft charges, the DUI at this point really does not matter unless you get some type of driving job. To be employable you need to hire an attorney to expunge your records. In some states a DUI is not expungable. In my state DUI’s fall off after 5 years but stay on your record forever.

    As far as credit, if you have bad credit the government looks at it like, gee he can’t pay his bills on time, he might try to steal from us, (as if we don’t have enough thieves working for the government. lol Good Luck!

    Unlikely the government will hire you due to the theft charges. If it were just the DUI you would have a much better chance. The FICO score only matters in corporate america and not so much the public sector.

    read their policy and make sure you are ALLOW to apply with your records. If you do apply and you get denied and you feel it was solely based on theft charges and DUI, contact the Department of Labor for assistance or legal advice
