I went through a program for first time offenders (community service and blah blah) so the charges were dropped...i got stopped for making a illegal left turn which i always do at that street only this time a cop was sitting there...bummer

I don’t think it will hurt you. I’m a cop in a fairly large department and I know of at least one guy on our department who has a prior DUI conviction.

I mean, it was five years ago. I’m assuming you’ve been clean ever since, right? And if the charges were dropped, it might not even come up on your record. But even if it does, I wouldn’t be too concerned. However, if they ask you about it at your police interview, take TOTAL responsibility and say you were young and foolish. Do NOT complain about the BAC being under .08 and you weren’t 21, etc. The key is to totally take responsibility for your actions. That’s what the hiring board wants to see. Trust me.

But as you’ll learn when you become an officer there is something calling "Absolute Sobriety" or the "Not a Drop" law if you’re under 21. Trust me, you’ll arrest people for the same thing and be forced to chuckle a bit at yourself as you’re doing so.

On a side note, I got a ticket for Possession of THC when I was 15 and I got hired at the department of my dreams when I was 21. (by the same department that wrote me the ticket!) AND, I got reported to the police (same department) as a runaway a dozen times when I was in my teens. So I was no angel either, lol!

if you had the charges dropped thenyou don’t have a criminal record and there is no stain to prevent you from pursuing a career in law enforcement, next time don’t drink and drive.
