Hire an attorney. The attorney will be able to reach a plea deal with the prosecutor for a reduced charge. If you can’t afford one, you may have one appointed if you qualify, and if you’re facing prison time. If you can’t afford one and you’re not facing prison, you won’t get a lawyer. In that case, be honest with the judge, ask for mercy, and you’ll usually get it.
I thought that qualified you for a discount on in-state college tuition.

Start doing community service, and take alcohol education classes. Do this before your court date. It will look good for you to show initiative, and to show that you are serious and have learned from your mistake.
And also get a lawyer. A lawyer can make negotiations that you wouldn’t be able to do yourself.

If its like florida you usually get a court date in mail, that is a pre-trial if not a pretrial (and judge will tell you) then ask then what you can do. Ask if you can set a payment plan or do community service
