I would say it will be harder for you to pass on a drink than to become a firefighter.
DUIs are misdemeanors and will only stay on your record for 3-5 years. Getting a misdemeanor expunged may be harder than necessary.
Although it may not be impossible to become a firefighter, it will be extremely difficult. What one department may consider a disqualification, another may not. The fact that you have 2 DUIs shows that you didn’t learn from your mistake the first time. Only have 1 year of sobriety hurts you also. I don’t think a background investigator would consider that enough time to be considered for a job as a firefighter. Time and clean living is on your side though. If this happened when you were 22 and you decide to become a firefighter at the age of 34, your chances go up but doesn’t guarantee a job. You are obviously behind the 8 ball.
I don’t know much about expungements but if your record shows that you had some sort of expungement, the background investigator is going to wonder what you are trying to hide for you to go to the trouble of an expungement. That will not look good.
I’m sorry. You have made it extremely difficult, if not altogether impossible. We live in a society that does not forgive misdeeds too easily.
Depends on which department, there are plenty of people who have been in Jail before that became firefighters, im not kidding.
Becoming a firefighter with a criminal conviction is easier than becoming a cop with a criminal conviction.
