My friend recently was charged with a 2 counts of DUI and a hit and run but has not been convicted in California. He wants to move out the state to Nevada because he fears he will not be hired. Would employers catch up on him if they do a background check. ...

    has he been to court yet, you say he was charged but not convicted, so either he has yet to go to court or they found him innocent………. so if not yet had his day in court he may well be in a world of hurt for leaving the state, as for the rest of your question a blind man would find out that sort of record……..

    I would think so. I would think even a half assed background test would find that.

    How thoroughly an employer checks on a potential employee is up to each employer. The information about DUI, from any state, is easily available to any employer who wants it.

    Many (I think it’s most) states have reciprocity agreements for DUIs, so if you’ve been convicted in California, Nevada will show you as having been convicted there. Now, if your friend moves to Nevada before he can be tried in California, he may be off the hook — provided he doesn’t set foot in California for at least seven years (or whatever the statute of limitations is).
